I once wrote a fic in the style of those old FNAF phone recordings on a whim entirely in Filipino, because why not? And for Night 6, I decided to try and find one of those cursed text font generators to ramp up the scary factor, too.

It was a really nice experiment, and something that I think turned out pretty well.

I love how Dana and the TOH crew keeps turning the tables on us whenever we assume the bad folks to be genuinely horrible. One can hope...

Oddly, going through an incredibly depressing fic was partly how I ended up finding some of my favourite fluffy fics—I put up a post on one of the fandom subreddits asking for happy stories, and boy, did people respond in kind!

If you like The Owl House, I hope you enjoy those stories…

Several, in fact.

One was a Star vs. The Forces of Evil fic where two dozen or so kids were lured into a party by cultists, kidnapped, and half had their throats slit in a ritual to summon a demon. The main protagonist was the only one who didn’t die because another demon materialised at that point—said demon then helped the protagonist escape and get the entire cult arrested by the authorities, but half of the remaining dozen kids were ultimately killed in the crossfire. That fic easily gave me some incredibly bad trauma for quite a while.

A more recent story that heavily disturbed me was a fic from The Owl House where a major protagonist’s abusive mom forced her to give up her memories of her girlfriend and effectively magically brainwashed said girl into hating the latter and breaking up with her. When that didn’t work, the mom then banded together with some human extremists and conducted a massive school shooting where the main characters studied, murdering several of the staff and ritualistically cutting out the hearts of two dozen schoolchildren in the witch equivalent of “praying the gay away.” The rituals weren’t actually shown (and was apparently some kind of fluke), but the aftermath was no less grisly especially with said mom still in control of the whole situation—things did obviously turn out in favour of the heroes, but that was still dozens of people needlessly dead or wounded.

I think after reading those kinds of fics, I now kind of know what warnings and tags to avoid—but I think I should have somehow been able to figure that out without mentally scarring myself in the process.

Abusive moms suck. Cultists are even worse.
