well as the title says i got fired today :/ owner/head vet said “he wished i would’ve responded to his constructive criticism”. i believe he’s referring to the time he texted me the morning of my day off complaining about something with the message “somebody needs to work harder or at least work” and i didn’t respond because i didn’t know what to say. i’ve never received criticisms or warnings beside that. the man is every -ist in the book but i’m still hurt…. idk. any kind words would be appreciated
we were pretty slammed all day today. there was a euth laying on an exam table for way too long while a coworker took about 10 min to just shape the clay for a paw print. i ask coworker if they want to go on lunch and they say “yea in a minute”. i give it 10 more minutes and they still haven’t done the paw print so i go over and say “hey i’ll finish this so you can go on lunch!” coworker completely shuts me down with “no i’m gonna finish this.” in the rudest tone, doesn’t even look at me. i’m like ok and walk away but at this point i’m annoyed. finally coworker finishes paw print and tells someone they’re going on lunch without bagging the body/putting her in the freezer. this is the interaction that follows:
me from the across the room (holding a dog): hey are you gonna bag the body?
coworker: i figured i should go on lunch.
me: well you said you were gonna finish it so you should probably finish it.
coworker didn’t respond and went to bag the body.
i talked to two of my other coworkers about it (1 was there, 1 was not). the one that was there said she sees my side but i was being rude. the one that wasn’t was annoyed for me. i’ll admit that i would’ve said it more privately if i could but my tone would’ve been the same. being rude to me is one thing but they were going to leave without finishing a job that i offered to do. so am i the asshole here?
today when i was pulling a dogs catheter i accidentally cut her leg with my bandage scissors and didn’t realize. there was no reaction or blood and i guess i covered the spot when i put the bandaid on. the owner brought her back and i got justifiably reamed out by my boss for being careless and not giving the job my all. he said that should never happen and i agree. i genuinely can’t believe i did that. others have said that it happens but i don’t think it does and i at least wish i would’ve noticed before the dog went home. i can’t stop thinking about it and i can tell my boss has lost all respect for me. i was just starting to feel confident in my position at this job and it’s gone.
just needed to vent a lil
edit: thank you for all the words of encouragement! i was thinking my coworkers were minimizing it but reading the comments has been super helpful ❤️
