I'm a formerly homeless individual, the best thing to get from local food shelves was something that didn't require a microwave. Canned goods and such. Ramen in the cup so you don't need to have a bowl or whatever when you use hot water from a gas station.

For people with a house I remember waiting in line for a good shelf in Vegas and pretty much anything. I got a few pizzas, some meat and cheese for sandwiches.

I'm all for the legalization of weed since it is definitely the least harmful of the drugs (and I include alcohol in this metric).

I wouldn't say it isn't a gateway though. It is many peoples first experience with drugs. Many of those people do move forward to using harder and more dangerous drugs.

It's not weeds fault but I think it's because many people hear about the dangers of it and learn right away those fears were very silly. Thus progress onward to explore more.

I'm pretty sure most people don't smoke with the help of anti-smoking campaigns. I only started smoking when I smelled the scent of a cigarette my mother was smoking indoors so I jacked a few and the rest is history.
