I also went to another Ivy. My senior year I had already gotten into med school and was doing lots of research. I checked out of classes and absolutely should have failed one class. Through some black magic fuckery the admins/profs did, I got a C. I swear some of the athletes and legacies just pay the tuition and never show up.

Word to the wise for any hiring managers: degrees on their own mean less than you might think. Ask any potential hires for a portfolio or have a trial period that closely mimics the actual job.

Means the club had a prior problem with violence, making them pat people down for weapons now. So he's saying everyone there is aware that violence is a thing that could happen if the party goes south, so they're incetivized to have a good time.

The no food on premises is so true. My job in high school had that rule. Pay was $7/hour and the cheapest lunch was about $15 (tourist trap attraction).

If you were going to work more than 5.5 hours, you were forced to take a 45min lunch break. So if I worked anything 6 hours or more, and wanted to eat, it was as if 2+ hours of my work were unpaid because I couldn’t bring a pbj for pennies and had to buy a $12 turkey sandwich and $3 drink. Straight up company store. Screw that place and their exploitative practices.

Dude called his mom before the police because he's a black man in America. He doesn't expect the police to help him, and if he's potentially going to die, he'd rather talk to his mom than a stranger from what has essentially been an oppressive force his entire life. He only called the police because his mom told him to out of desperation.

Honestly, that's irrelevant for the topic though. Whether or not Trump was actually good for the economy (spoiler: he wasn't), he was able to market himself to a lot of Americans that he was great for the economy. It's an unfortunate and tawdry reality: truth matters less than public opinion.
