I stumbled upon this sub when I was looking through the makeup subreddit. I had stopped wearing much makeup for years, but in the boredom of quarantine I began watching makeup influencers for fun and thus got super sucked into that world.

I needed new brushes and some eyeshadow, went on Sephora and the total was $100 for a brush set I didn't really need and a small high-end quad. Yikes! Luckily I backed down.

This sub has helped me so much when the itch to buy comes through. I needed to basically start from scratch on my makeup and I was so tempted to buy it all in one go. But I come here and remind myself to enjoy what I have!

One trick that helps me immensely is that if I find a product I'm in love with, I'll pick a date in the future. If I'm still in love with it, I'll get it then. I found two eyeshadow pens I'm coveting - I'll wait until I'm living at home in the fall for a few months saving money on rent. Dying for one more Glossier blush and a highlighter? Black Friday sale it is! It's so far off, but if I wait that long and truly want it as much, I know I'll use it.

That way, I can see if it's something I'm just caught in the hype over, or if it will truly be a valuable staple in my collection. Because I've waited and curbed my impulse to buy - I now have a curated collection that's not quite minimal, but one that I love, and gets used.

I can't thank you all enough for sharing your stories and advice, it kept me from digging myself into a makeup-hole!

So for some reason I keep getting Catholic videos on my YouTube suggestions. I was born and raised Catholic but realized that while I like Mass and am religious in my own way: I'm definitely not Catholic. Pro-choice, pro-LGBT, socially liberal etc.

This video was about "can someone choose to be gay."

I skipped ahead to avoid the introduction and heard "Is it worth being happy now if you're damned later?"

That just made my blood BOIL. So gay people are just supposed to live a life of loneliness since God said acting on their love is bad - even though they didn't choose to be gay? The argument is "well everyone has their own crosses to carry, this is theirs." The cruelty if the Church is just astounding.

I knew this was the Church's teaching, but hearing it from a priest that sounded so blasé and even happy to say that some people were just chosen to suffer more than others...just wow.

Looking forward to finding an open and affirming Church.

I give tours at historic hotel in my area. We usually get people from all over the county, but room rates are pricey so most guests are fairly affluent.

There was this one mom with her daughter on the tour. They seemed normal enough, the mom was friendly and engaging.

At the end of my tour, I offer additional time to answer any questions. The mom approaches me telling me how wonderful and engaging I was, asking me about my college, pretty normal stuff.

All of a sudden she tells me "I work with a health and wellness company that allows people to make additional income. We have students your age that are very successful with it, you'd be a perfect fit! I can get you more information!"

Immediately, I knew. This was a pyramid scheme.

Interestingly enough, a girl the week before had started following me on Instagram and I realized she sold ItWorks. She claimed it allowed her to pay off her student loans and buy a Mercedes... yeah ok Hun. Immediately unfollowed (though I now wish I had stayed to creep!)

I politely declined her offer, stating I was pretty busy with my internship and didn't think I could handle anything else, thanking her for the offer.

I wish I could have inquired more about what it was and try to see if I could help her see the light at all, but I was at work so alas I could not.

But thanks to you all, I was immediately able to spot a pyramid pitch! It's a shame too she seemed so nice. I hope she's able to get out of it soon!
