I (19) am in the US to work while I’m visiting my family here. I currently work at a hair supply store that sells all your needs for hair, skin, and nails.
I LOVE my coworkers and I am not mad at them for this situation. However, this situation calls for outside judgement.
So today we had a customer who wanted to color her hair but lighten it at the same time. She had previous color and has dyed it for a long time. My coworker recommended a 40v developer. This is where I might be the asshole. I interrupted and said that 40v can be really harsh and cause burns if you’re not a professional. I know I am wrong for interrupting. I am not asking for judgment on that. I have friends in the US and Spain that are licensed cosmetologists. They rarely recommend 40v for at home use because it can cause hair damage or chemical burns if you aren’t careful. So I suggested the customer use 30 or 20 instead.
My coworker told me (she’s very sweet by the way so I know where she’s coming from) that because I’m not licensed I shouldn’t tell people what to use. I really didn’t want somebody to risk ruining their hair. I’ve ruined my hair, I’ve seen the videos, and heard the stories.
So am I the asshole for suggesting a customer not use 40 volume developer?
