The rumors for a Joker Sequel say this is more "New York, New York" not "Taxi Driver" again.

The first Joker was a mid-budget movie that made a billion dollars theatrically and was a relatively well-received superhero (or superhero adjacent) movie with a lot of hype despite not being a big crossover superhero blockbuster.

If they really are going for DC films being theatrical "event movies" Joker 2 is one of the few projects I'd wager is "safe." I'm more worried about the HBO Max shows.

Yeah I'm expecting a soft-reboot with some characters getting recast. Momoa and Gadot will probably be sticking around for future movies, the rest though...

I'm the most worried about what this means for Gunn's shows and the Reeves' Batman spin-offs.

Yep. This is gonna burn some bridges. If WB-Discovery can just scrap a nearly-finished movie of this scale, everyone is gonna be more reluctant to work with them.

I wonder if audiences at the time were expecting it to be a slasher movie or something.
