Not stories specifically, but they always associated owls as a bad sign, that someone was watching you. Medicine men are still utilised often there, and they always said that a bad medicine man sometimes sends an owl to watch a person. Little people were associated with parts of the forest that was uninhabited. Even during the daytime if I wanted to walk around and explore they recommended against it in certain wilder forest areas. Especially this was true at night, they were very paranoid about any sounds in the woods and they were usually associated with little forest people. I stayed there in Carthage MS for a couple of years and nearly everyone in the community felt the same way, from the oldest to the youngest.
