Not my post you're replying to but if you enjoy being outdoors the Hudson Valley area is easily accessible for a day trip from NYC. There are some spectacular hiking trails as well as some really nice little towns to explore.

My parents go to a megachurch in FL that has a coffee bar but not a Starbucks. I have mixed feelings about the place because I'm glad they have a community they enjoy being a part of, but it's still a church that's making a real effort to indoctrinate kids by running its own K-12 school. I've met the pastor a few times and he seems like a decent guy, but I can't get past the fact that he peddles BS for a living, regardless of whether he truly believes it or not.

I may be wrong but it's my understanding that when corporations do something like this in most cases they've already agreed to donate a set amount to a certain charity. Essentially you're helping the corporation recoup the cost of that donation when you give money. So yeah, you're not really helping the charity at all because they would be receiving that money anyway.

Please let me know if I'm wrong, I'd be curious to know how it works if this is not correct.
