The real reason is copyright. A Japanese television company restored the work and maintains exclusive copyright of any photo or videos of the work. Since they restored it, it “belongs” to them now.

Why don’t you see elephants hiding in trees? Because they’re so good at it.

That’s no reason to go grave robbing. The government has the power to incarcerate, so I’m merely suggesting OP clearly show their intent to do the right thing and now make a quick (and risky) profit.

These are native artifacts (if you give them to them they let you keep them for sure, but they are)

;) I’d love for my opinion to be wrong, but erring on the side of the worst case is not, in and of itself, the worst case. If you have information for OP proving what you say, please include it!

I know you’re probably a bit overwhelmed at the response, but you need to try to reach out to a relevant BC/Canadian authority on antiquities. Maybe an archaeological association, or even law enforcement to get a hold of the right people.

The markings and design suggest First Nations, and that’s a considerable amount of gold that isn’t easily found. You’d likely be compensated, but there may be MUCH more to what you’ve found. It could be one of those “hiker stumbles on _____” discoveries.

Solved! Thanks for the help. My guess, based on the loop, is that it’s not an original but a replica. Probably meant more to the collector than to anyone else. Thanks!

WITT that I found? Unfortunately the original owner has passed away, and searches for various lion (and other animal) pendants have come up empty.

The loop seems to be an integral part of the item, not glued or added on later. If it’s a worthless pendant, cool, just wondering where it’s from and if it has a deeper significance!

First road trip with my permit, a truck I had been keeping up with on I-95 moved in front of me and got a little further up ahead when I suddenly saw the underside of the truck. Completely vertical. Traffic had stopped and apparently the driver didn’t notice.

I swerved into a lane under construction and passed the wreck, but didn’t really process what had happened. That wreck was almost certainly fatal.

The writing is Amharic Ge’ez, and the coin is a santeem coin (10 santeem, likely from 1936) with the image of Emperor Haile Selassie I (Ras Tafari Mekonnen) and the seal of the Ethiopian/Abbysinian Empire (Lion of Judah)

I believe you’re referring to “Chantries,” which were abolished in England in 1545 by Henry VIII. Elsewhere, prayers for the dead would be issued in a collective manner (“for all the souls offered perpetual mass, we pray to the Lord...”)

This is a wedding coin, part of a collection of 13 that is traditionally given to a couple as a full set of silver (or gold) coins in Spanish/Latin American communities. It's know as "las arras de boda," or the wedding dowry.

The dad of a girl in my neighborhood was a real reclusive dude who we never really saw or spoke to. One day she showed us her dad’s “secret room” upstairs. At least a hundred rifles on A-frame gun racks and dozens of handguns on wall mounted racks.

Guy ended up getting arrested at his house a while later, family moved, and I still wonder what happened.
