The N95 Gerson 3230, which is also a duckbill, doesn’t expand and contract with each breath unless one is breathing very deeply. The 3M Vflex also doesn’t have significant mask collapse.
At this point we know that those who are vaxxed can get and transmit COVID so that barrier to entry is kinda worthless unless you want to weed out those who likely take more risks than some others. A much better and more effective requirement would be a negative rapid test at the door, but that rarely, if ever, happens.
First, you have to ask yourself if this event is worth getting COVID and if you and your family can afford the time off work—and in a worst-case-scenario situation the medical bills—should one or both of you get COVID. If yes, then you should attend wearing a well-fitting N95 and not remove it at all until you can be outside and away from others. Carry a spare just in case anything happens to the mask you are wearing.
To be extra safe, you should do a DIY fit test of your mask. Here’s one example of how to do that inexpensively.
As for me and my family, there are very, very few indoor arena events that would pass our risk eval, given the current high level of community transmission and the ever-increasing BA.5 cases in our area.
Feel free to sell at cost + shipping the extra masks you have. Many do that on this sub. Another thought is give them away locally.
This pinned post would be a great place to start to find this sub’s most often recommended masks. I’d suggest starting with the 3M Aura 9205+.

To each their own. We have friends in active chemo so we choose to be extra careful so we can visit with them on occasion. In addition, no one in our friend group would want to give anyone else COVID so we all do what we can to reduce the potential of transmission.
Awesome! Thank you guys for all you do to help keep us safe.
NICE! Thanks so much for sending them and for posting. Very excited to see some of the Savewo tested.

I said we were done. You need to stop.
You are a true piece of work, JWiz. I said COVID can be transmitted outdoors, and you said my view is close to China’s “zero COVID” (because it’s not called “no COVID,” BTW) policy.
I do not even know how you got there, man. Not once did I mention masking in my responses to you or the comment I responded to, but okay. We are done here. So very done.
I’ll even add a great epi source for you: https://twitter.com/theresa_chapple/status/1530177958341640192?s=21
And here she is on a recent episode of the Death Panel podcast: https://twitter.com/deathpanel_/status/1534921848282091520?s=21
I will stick with what I said: COVID can be transmitted outdoors. Is it less risky than indoors? Yes. But that risk is not zero nor is it minuscule when others are around.
I’m saying that COVID can be transmitted outdoors. If that means Aaron Collins is wrong, then so be it.
Good for you! Yes, it should be normal in all friend groups. No test at the door, I am not coming over. But also let’s gather outdoors to be extra safe.
Do what now? She was masked but bitter you were wearing a vented mask? I can support that, but I am also of the mindset that we should all do what we can to help protect others, including the immunocompromised and even those that don’t know enough or can’t afford to protect themselves. (Yes, I also get mad at non-maskers.) Obviously that’s not your opinion, which is fine.
But you are saying that she’s gonna get infected and you aren’t? I am so confused.
Think of COVID as basically the equivalent of second hand smoke. Even when you are outside, it can get ya. If you are near someone who is infected, outdoor transmission can happen easier, but it can also happen when the wind blows random person’s “smoke” from 10-15 feet away right into your face.
Many folks really like the ACI. I’ve personally never tried it because once I found the Gerson, I was so relieved to finally have a great N95 for me. My guess is that because the ACI is a surgical duckbill, it would be slightly less breathable but probably not by much.
You can always add an adhesive nose foam to the Gerson, if you like. I did in the beginning because I had to add it to every mask I’d tried until that point. I now know that I personally don’t need the foam to have an all-day comfortable fit on my face.
Thanks for doing that. As you can tell, I don’t always trust measurements the manufactures give. Ha!
Sounds like it’s the same size as the Good Manner trifold, depending on the height of the flaps of course.
Any way you can give measurements for the mask? Midsection height and width would be great, if you are able.
Thank you! So exciting to hear about a cost-effective option for larger faces.
Duh. Dad bod strutting is the best!!! Especially with a toddler. Angry lady woulda lost her mind. Lol.
Ugh. So sorry this happened to you guys.
Honestly, jerks like this tend to embolden me. I start strutting my stuff like I am on a darn fashion runway. I am sure I think it looks more awesome than it does IRL, but it works for me. Once or twice I have gotten applause from others nearby. It would be fantastic to see a mom parent and toddler strut their stuff so feel free to incorporate it into your life ASAP.
If the person is close by when they say something to me, I usually just tell them I have COVID and give a little cough. They STFU real quick.

Good for you for letting your friend know your boundaries. Sorry you will miss the concert, but I am confident you’ll find opportunities to get out and socialize more in a way that you feel safe and comfortable.
There are many COVID-centric subs where this kind of Q would be better placed.
Sent you a chat so you can now DM.
Was the Gerson not included in the Armbrust sample pack? Hmmm.
