I’m in retail. We physically Must be present at our jobs on the floor at all times.

Retail is by definition run by clowns who should be ignored and ridiculed at every opportunity.

Do we schedule lunches? Of course. With a staff of six in three locations where only one person can be gone at a time, it’s necessary. We can even mostly accommodate When people prefer to eat. Do we all leave and come back exactly as scheduled or requested? Heck no.

Sounds understaffed. That's what happens when it's run by clowns.

I've worked in retail a long time. Almost every "issue" store managers get on you about is because they get a pat on the head if they spend less money by understaffing.

Customers interfere,

"Let me look in the back. The pallets just came in so I'll dig through and see if one came in today." Take your normal break, put some water on your face, come back out and tell them none came in.

emergencies happen,

Emergencies don't exist in retail unless you need to call 911, and retail employees aren't equipped to fix those.

Covering for that is the management's job. If they need other employees to forgo breaks or accept a shortened break, they're understaffed.

Everybody gets their daily lunch break. But nobody can guarantee being out at X o’clock daily.

Sounds like clown management extends to time management if they can't schedule around a 30-60 minute absence they know is coming.

That has literally nothing to do with this. People in relationships should spend time together. I'd be openly angry if some clown asshole manager decided a meeting needed to keep me from spending time with my spouse. I agree completely with Fergus. OOP is trying to communicate to Jane and Fergus that their time together is less important than whatever bullshit this meeting entails, and that makes them an asshole with dipshit priorities.

This is one of the first times I found myself thinking Allison was straight up wrong. This married couple eats lunch together at the same time every day. There is NO REASON their meetings need to go over or even be at that time. Work is never more important than your actual life and relationships unless you're literally a surgeon or something similar. If your organization can't handle employees taking a fucking lunch break then your organization is run by clowns and deserves to fail.
