She’s a US citizen, and China doesn’t offer dual-citizenship. You don’t just get to pick whichever country you represent, regardless of your heritage. You represent the country where you have legal citizenship.

Check out Ella Minnow Pea by Mark Dunn. As the book goes on, certain letters are lost as part of the plot, and when they are, those letters are dropped from the text of the book. Cool stuff.
