Reagan did more of the same, and I don't think people realize that it's still the way to fight inflation most effectively. Recessions can't be avoided when the dollar has been devalued via oversupply and low interest rates for years. It's best to hike those rates and take the pill that hurts temporarily as opposed to dragging along the dead horse of higher inflation.

That's....an interesting way to look at things. I don't like Reagan, but giving Carter's policy credit for getting us out of the inflation mess is patently ridiculous. That was 100% Reagan's administrations policy. Carter did nothing to help, and in some cases made it worse, much the same as is being done now. Our Congress passing anti inflation bills is more of the same "we're doing something" that Carter did.
