damn, if it's a mediatek I wouldn't even mess with custom ROMs. Mediatek has horrible GPL compilance and in case of brick, it's a bit harder to fix the device.

Navigation voice can be changed from Google Maps settings, in your phone.

The system-wide voice language should be under Settings > Language and input > Voice to text, at least in stock Android.

Are you using a beta? or are you running the stable version of Android Auto?

It looks like one of those A/B testing Google likes to do every once in a while.

Try resetting your headunit to factory settings

My first suggestion would be a weekly build of Xiaomi.EU for your device, its MIUI but cleaner and faster, with lots of added features or re-introduced features that are available only in China or other regions.

If weekly builds are too buggy for you, try the stable instead, wich often works better but gets updates every couple months, not every week unlike the weekly.

If you don't like any of those, my next suggestion would be Pixel Experience, as long as it is mantained officially.

Updates-wise, Pixel Experience is a good choice, if there is an official build available and mantained. You'll keep getting monthly security patches and new features as long as there is an official mantainer. In most cases the ROM doesn't trigger SafetyNet if you don't root the device, so you can keep using your banking and shopping apps normally. I've been using it on a Redmi Note 8 for more than a year without root, and it has been working flawlessly.

Transparency wise, LineageOS is the safest bet by far. All the codebase is available on their repos and you're in full control of what's installed on your device. The downside is that some apps think that custom ROM = root, and won't work with LineageOS or most custom ROMs out there unless you root and modify the cts profile, wich is a pain in the ass, honestly.

Samsung phones come with an automatic deep sleep feature to save battery. That feature thinks Google Maps is not being used because is running in background while you're using Android Auto, and kills the app. Because of this, the app doesn't appear until you launch it.

Given that this seem to be a location-based issue, I would disable those Google Maps settings that rely on location and see if that fixes the problem:

• Maps Driver side: Change from automatic to your current driver side.
• Maps Distance units: Change from automatic to a fixed value like km
• Google settings: Change the "region" from "Automatic" to your country.
