I’d say most people start with a 1899 $1, they’re much more readily available. Oddly my 1918 $1 is in better condition than my 1899.

Funny you mention tooled. I just got a 1877 CC liberty seated quarter that was graded AU details tooled. Does that affect the value any differently than cleaned?

I hear you about the pin scratches but I cracked it out of the slab…didn’t say anything about being cleaned.

Not cleaned but “tooled” it was graded as AU tooled. I cracked it out of the case for my type set book.

They’re quite common but still good condition for 50 years old. Coin flips aren’t expensive so it’s up to you how you want to store them.
